Chronology of cameras Zeiss Ikon
The Tropica is aptly named since it is intended for long-distance travellers who need to practice photography in difficult climatic conditions.
This plate and Film-Pack large camera first existed at Wünsche, then at Ica, before arriving at the Zeiss Ikon catalogue, following the formation of this new company through merger. It is a square shaped camera, featuring a swivelling back that allows to switch from the vertical format to the horizontal format, and vice versa, without having to rotate the whole camera. The baseplate can unfold lower than the horizontal. The lens is mounted on bayonet. The frame finder is doubled by a metal mesh, probably to provide the field of view of a second focal length. This second lens can be the 6.3 / 25cm Tele-Tessar (very expensive!)
The Tropica exists in 9 x 12, 10 x 15 and 13 x 18 cm format. Multiple lens and shutter combinations exist for the different formats.
